Welcome parents and students! This page is here to share links and resources with parents and students. You may add comments at any time if you have questions regarding the homework or the topics being covered. Please add comments as your questions and concerns will be shared by others and publishing your comments will allow me to answer questions for everyone, like in a forum. Topics we’ve been focusing on this term are economics and celebrations/traditions. This term as a final project, students are expected to create a powerpoint presentation about a winter celebration far removed from our Christmas traditions. The objective is to learn about diverse traditions in many cultures and to compare them to our own.

Students have 2 weeks to gather information on the form provided. The Powerpoint is due by end of term. I will begin teaching them how to make slides and copy pictures into a slide beginning next week.
I am a bit confused about what is expected on the sheet you handed out. Is she supposed to fill in the info from her own cultural family background or choose another culture to write about? She is from a Dutch heritage. Is there going to be more information given on what is expected?
You had mentioned that we need to bring our own harddrive in to have the powerpoint program downloaded to our computor. Should we do this next week? Can we sit in on the class to see how to do it on our own computor?
Thank you,
patti Dennison
Hi Patti,
The heritage worksheet and family tree were about your family. The winter celebration powerpoint is about a celebration far removed from our own Christmas traditions. The socials outcome is to learn about the traditions and celebrations of the world.
Parents are always welcome to sit in on classes. We will be covering basic Powerpoint skills: Creating slides with 2 different layouts and copying and pasting photos and clipart onto our slides. Most of the school computers come with the Microsoft Office package installed on them. Powerpoint 2007 is included in that set of software. If it’s not loaded on your computer this isn’t a problem as I’m not expecting students to complete this as homework. The research only is assigned for homework. We will use the rest of the classes to complete the slides. I hope this answers all your questions :0)
Are they assigned a specific specific country of the world, or are we to choose one that is very different than our own?
Patti Dennison (your previous answer was informative, thank you)
Hi,
Just wondering if Dani is displaying enough info on her powerpoint, she doesn’t seem to think she needs to be working on her research sheet.
Thanks,
Lisa
